The Senate rejected an effort Thursday to terminate a Medicare pilot that uses artificial intelligence and other technologies to review prior authorization requests for certain services.

In a 46-50 vote, the Senate rejected a motion to proceed to Senate Joint Resolution 198, which would have overturned a Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services rule implementing the Wasteful and Inappropriate Service Reduction (WISeR) model. The vote fell along party lines, with four senators not voting.

The outcome allows the six-year pilot to continue in Arizona, New Jersey, Ohio, Oklahoma, Texas, and Washington. ARTICLE
