Just weeks before expanded telehealth services for Medicare beneficiaries were set to expire, a new announcement extends the program for an additional six months. The new expiration date for telehealth flexibilities in Medicare is now Sept. 30, 2025.
This extension allows patients on Medicare to keep consulting doctors from home, as they’ve done since the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic. The provision extends telehealth services for health centers and rural clinics, delays in-person requirements for mental health care, authorizes audio-only telehealth, and allows hospice recertification via telehealth.
