Dual-Eligible Special Needs Plans (D-SNPs) — a type of Medicare Advantage plan specifically designed for individuals eligible for both Medicare and Medicaid — offer consumers more for less, especially compared to traditional MA plans. D-SNPs can provide greater coordination of benefits and typically offer additional services unavailable in conventional Medicare plans, usually without charging a premium.
In 2023, 5.2 million people were enrolled in a D-SNP, representing about 20% of all MA enrollees. Recent data shows that 96% of D-SNPs provide over-the-counter benefits, significantly higher than the 85% offered by other plans. Similarly, meal benefits are available in 86% of D-SNPs, compared to only 72% in standard plans.
These figures demonstrate D-SNPs’ enhanced coverage and commitment to comprehensive care for those we serve. ARTICLE
